Gold Coast may be known for many things but few are as recognised as the sunny skies and perfect weather.

Here is our complete guide to the Gold Coast weather, month by month.

JANUARY

Welcome to the Aussie summer.

This is the best time to enjoy the sun, sand and surf - and the Gold Coast is the ideal spot.

From unlimited water sports at the best beaches in the world to theme parks, you can pass your time. Just make sure you bring sunscreen.

MARCH

Since Gold Coast is a year-round location, the beaches and theme parks can also be enjoyed now.

Surfing is a popular activity and some of the best surfers come to Gold Coast to catch the excellent surf at this time of the year.

Average temperature (C): 23.3

Precipitation/rainfall (mm): 212

APRIL

The theme parks are a little less crowded than during the summer months and the weather makes the joyrides all the better.

Autumn is also a preferred time for fishing, golfing and nature walks through the rainforests and hinterlands.

Average temperature (C): 21.2

Precipitation/rainfall (mm): 146

MAY

Things may start to get a tad more chilly but in general the weather will hold up just fine - don't worry too much about jackets.

But it could be worth taking an umbrella some days.

Average temperature (C): 18.1

Precipitation/rainfall (mm): 146

JUNE

The winter months are mostly pleasant but the evenings are cold.

This time is ideal for whale watching, plus the theme parks will be more quiet but still worth a visit.

Average temperature (C): 15.7

Precipitation/rainfall (mm): 103

JULY

As far as the Gold Coast goes this will be when you most need warm clothing, but it's still pretty nice during the day when the sun is out.

Don't be fooled by the weather though as sunscreen will still be needed.

Average temperature (C): 14.5

Precipitation/rainfall (mm): 85

AUGUST

Winter will come to an end at the finish of August, meaning things will start warming up again.

Rain and storms are much less regular.

Average temperature (C): 15.3

Precipitation/rainfall (mm): 62

SEPTEMBER

Many will argue that Gold Coast is most beautiful and pleasant during Spring.

These months are windy and are excellent for adventure sports like kite-surfing, kite-boarding and windsurfing.

The chances of rain diminish.

Average temperature (C): 17.6

Precipitation/rainfall (mm): 42

OCTOBER

With the weather warming up but still not at its best, this is the ideal time to head to the Coast to avoid crowds.

It's known as a holiday destination in Australia so there may still be a steady stream, though most will arrive in the coming months.

Average temperature (C): 19.9

Precipitation/rainfall (mm): 105

NOVEMBER

Summer is only one month away and that means Spring is starting to warm up.

It's a good time for swimming and getting out and about before the scorching conditions take effect.

Average temperature (C):21.8

Precipitation/rainfall (mm): 112

DECEMBER

It's the start of summer and given how popular the Gold Coast is make sure you get in early with bookings. This is peak season so prepare for a rush.

Expect thunderstorms and rain.

Average temperature (C): 23.4

Precipitation/rainfall (mm): 147
