A GOLD COAST snake catcher has faced down his trickiest customer yet – an angry python that tried to bite him where it really hurts.
Nick Blandthorn, 24, from Gold Coast and Brisbane Snake Catchers, was removing a carpet python from a tree in a Helensvale back yard when the cranky critter bit his bottom before striking dangerously close to his groin area.
“I was trying to put him in the bag and he bit my thigh and then he bit a little bit higher which came very close to my... umm we’ll say ‘berries’,” he said.
“Before arriving to get the snake, the couple told me the birds had come down and plucked at the snake so I knew when I was getting it out of the tree it would be in a defensive mode.
“It didn’t try and bite me until I got it out of the tree and it came close to my bum and he bit through my jeans with a couple of teeth and I said ‘ooh’ because I felt a little bit of a sting.
“It didn’t bother me, I knew what he was doing and then as I went to go towards the bag he bit my upper thigh.”
The 24-year-old Pacific Pines local said he had been bitten “easily over 100 times” by pythons and non venomous snakes, some up to three metres in length.
“The jeans do protect but a few teeth will go through,” he said.
“The bite didn’t hurt that much it’s just a little sting from the sharp teeth but then it gets itchy after, which I reckon is the worst part.
“I thought the experience was quite funny for a Sunday afternoon.
“The snake has now been released in a suitable area away from people where hopefully he doesn’t come in contact with any bums or berries.”
