The highly anticipated annual Magic Millions horse race on the Surfers Paradise beach will pit champion jockeys, royals, polo pros and ex-NRL stars against each other.
The beach race has become a much-loved fixture of the yearling sale and race carnival but it’s easy to forget it has only been with us for just over a decade.
It was the first significant change made to Magic Millions week after co-owner John Singleton sold his stake in the company to Gerry Harvey and his wife Katie Page in 2011.
The first beach run took place in 2012 with then area councillor Susie Douglas saying at the time it was “great to see the beach being used for multi-purposes and to its full potential”.
In 2013, Zara Tindall, the niece of King Charles III and Olympic equestrian rider, was named as the face of the event.
