A brickie’s violent outburst at his partner where he threw an Xbox controller at her, headbutted and tackled her to the ground, has been revealed in a Logan court.
Troy Cornwall, 31, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh District Court on March 14 to two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count of choking.
The court heard that on November 25, 2020 Cornwall, from Capalaba, had an argument with his partner who he had been in a 12-year relationship with.
His partner was angry at seeing her belongings on the ground and Cornwall responded to her aggressively.
“The first mistake you made was speaking to me in that bitch tone,” said Cornwall.
His partner replied that “the only mistake I made was you”.
The court heard he choked her and headbutted her, fracturing her nose, and threw his Xbox controller at her while yelling abuse.
“Get the f--k up and clean the room, I’m the man of the house,” he said.
She tried to leave the house but Cornwall tackled her to the ground before she fled and was taken to Logan hospital.
Prosecutor Aden Tranent said domestic violence was a scourge on society and needed to be punished.
Cornwall told the court his behaviour was ‘out of character’ and he had completed an anger management course since the offending.
Judge Craig Chowdhury noted Cornwall had no criminal history.
“You were obviously in a bad mood that day, this was extraordinary violence,” he said.
“Domestic violence is getting out of hand in our community.
“You are not the usual person I would see for these offences.”
Cornwall was sentenced to two years in prison, wholly suspended. He had already served 151 days of pre-sentence custody.
