The police case against a Logan dad accused of kidnapping a ten-year-old boy with a machete, has been labelled by his lawyer “weak as a 7-Eleven $1 coffee”.

Tauvela Soe applied for bail in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on May 3.

He was charged with kidnapping and assault occasioning bodily harm while armed in company.

Police allege the 10-year-old, along with another boy, threw a rock at Mr Soe’s car near Woodridge Adventure Park on April 26 which sparked a major uproar.

Mr Soe, 27, then allegedly chased after the child who did not throw the rock and put him in the back of his car.

The court heard Mr Soe demanded to know where the other boy was.

“I’m gonna find him and get him, the f----g p---y,” police alleged Mr Soe said.

A fight broke out during which a machete was used to attack the car as Mr Soe and his partner drove off.

CCTV footage showed the fight breaking out between the two groups as Mr Soe drove away.

He was denied bail on April 27 and the mother of the 10-year-old spoke to 9News stating she was still in shock from the incident.

A Woodridge man, 22, and a Kingston woman, 29, have also been charged with kidnapping and assault occasioning bodily harm.

They were due to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on May 16.

Defence Lawyer Troy Smith said the prosecution case was weak and police had been lied to by witnesses.

“This case is as weak as a 7-Eleven $1 coffee,” he said.

“The media portrayed him as a crazed lunatic driving around with thugs in the car.

“This is laughable. My client runs in and helps to assist. Investigating officers have been lied to.”

Police prosecutor Senior Sergeant Karine Evans said it was initially alleged Mr Soe brought the machete to the incident but said it was clear from the CCTV to be untrue.

“Let’s not lose sight this is still a kidnapping of a child and vigilante behaviour is not OK,” she said.

Magistrate Terry Duroux refused bail and adjourned the matter for mention on June 19.
