International architects Buchan Group has designed the Chipmunks Playland and Café, an 870sqm indoor playground for children under 12 at the Hyperdome Home Centre at Shailer Park.

The redesigned space will include a massive slide along with different levels of colourful playgrounds, jumping and climbing frames and a restaurant and coffee shop for parents.

Separate areas will be designated for children under five and birthday party rooms.

The new venue will be next to Bunnings and behind BCF and Pillow Talk at the Hyperdome Home Centre, adjacent to the Hyperdome Shopping Mall, where there are 16 major retailers including Pet Barn, Forty Winks, Carpet Call, and Supercheap Auto.

Colourful climbing frames and games will be part of the fun.

Along with the slide, a highlight will be a “mega structure” which will include swings, ropes, climbing frames and colourful ball games.

The building will be painted in colourful murals on the outside, so it can be seen from the M1.

Large-screen interactive televisions, showing videos and playing music, will hang on the walls and the on-site cafe will serve a range of child-friendly snacks and meals along with coffee.

The new Chipmunks Playland and Cafe will be close to the M1 at the Hyperdome at Shailer Park.

The development application is for operating hours of Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm and on Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

In the past year, Rebel Sports and JB HiFi, moved from the Home Centre into the main Hyperdome Shopping Centre, where Japanese restaurant Isushi shut this month after trading there for eight years.

The closure leaves the centre without a standalone Japanese restaurant although Sushi One has opened in the food court.

Owners of Isushi restaurant, which included an iconic sushi train, apologised in a Facebook post last week and told loyal customers they were relocating out of the Hyperdome.

“Our last day of trading at Hyperdome and we apologise for the late notice,” the post said.

“We will use our best endeavours to find our new premises in the near future and bring our new restaurant to you.”
