A 23-year-old Sunnybank Hills woman has fronted a Gold Coast court after being charged with grievous bodily harm following an incident in which a baby girl was allegedly critically injured at Coomera in February.
The woman appeared in Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday, following a two-month police investigation involving detectives from the Gold Coast District Child Protection and Investigation Unit.
Police said they were called to a Coomera address just after 2.30pm on February 1, where they alleged they found the five-month-old girl experiencing breathing difficulties and suffering cardiac arrest.
The baby was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition and subsequent tests confirmed the child, who remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital, had significant internal injuries.
The woman is due back in Southport Magistrates Court in June.
