A family’s home of 18 years is now a crime scene and officially ‘under investigation’ after being engulfed by flames south of Brisbane.
Five emergency service units were called to a fire engulfed residence south of Brisbane about 3.30pm on Monday afternoon.
A fire and rescue spokeswoman told the Albert & Logan News five crews were dispatched to an address in Visser Ct, Rochedale South, arriving about 3.40pm to battle a blaze inside a brick dwelling.
The spokeswoman said the blaze was “well alight” and “appeared to be fully involved” when QFRS firefighters arrived.
An onescene fire fighter said they had the blaze under control by just past 4pm.
Queensland Police and paramedics also remain at the scene of the fire, which is now a crime scene.
Police and fire fighters believe the fire started in the living and kitchen area, however investigations are still underway.
The family has lived at their home for 18 years and do not have insurance. Logan House Fire Support Network are providing the family with temporary accomodation.
Although the family was emotionally distressed, no one suffered any injuries on scene. Their 15 year old cat was also located by fire fighters.
A neighbour said she was painting in her art studio when she heard a loud bang. She said she rang outside and saw the flames, before calling 000.
Fire fighters have confirmed the house is completely gutted. They said the kitchen and living areas were destroyed, while the bedrooms had suffered significant smoke damage.
