A Logan chef and disability support worker has faced court for punching two female police officers during a hectic house arrest.

Naftaly Ndonga Mwangi, 29, pleaded guilty in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on February 19 to two counts of serious assault of a police officer causing bodily harm.

The court heard that on November 26, last year Mwangi punched his girlfriend in the back of the head and police were called to the Logan Reserve home.

Two female officers arrived and asked a drunk Mwangi to remove his hands from his pockets.

He then ripped his hand up swiftly and pushed one of the officers, which caused her to fall back onto the ground and hit her head.

Mwangi then punched the other officer in the chest and struck her in the ear with his fist.

He also kicked at the officer’s left thigh and kicked her while she was on the ground.

Both officers provided victim impact statements to the court where they explained they were forced to take time off work and the attack caused an interruption to their lives.

The first victim had swelling, bruises and the other victim had soft tissue injuries and a concussion.

Defence lawyer Zane Chapman said Mwangi immigrated to Australia in 2016 and now resided in Coombabah.

“He is casually employed as a disability support worker and also as a chef,” he said.

“Mr Mwangi is deeply regretful of his behaviour, he understands what he did was wrong.

“I’m arguing for no conviction to be recorded as it may impact his ability to travel overseas in the future and potential employment opportunities.”

Magistrate Tracy Mossop scolded Mwangi’s behaviour towards woman.

“You have no respect for women, you attacked these two female officer and can think yourself lucky you are not going to jail.”

He was sentenced to a 12-month probation order and no conviction was recorded.

Mwangi was also ordered to pay $500 each in compensation to the victims.
