A Logan man faced court for allegedly attacking a police officer with a machete, lacerating his hand, during a home invasion.
Alfred Keith Mickelo, 29, faced Beenleigh Magistrates Court today, May 19, for an alleged assault of a police officer with a machete in Woodridge on Thursday.
Police were called to a Kingston Rd address about 3.20pm to reports of a break and enter.
Upon arrival, officers allegedly saw a man on the patio of a home before he attempted to run from the scene and jump the fence.
Police began a foot chase and attempted to grab the man, who allegedly turned and swung a machete stolen from the address, striking a male senior constable’s hand.
The officer suffered a laceration to his finger and was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition for treatment. He has since been discharged but will be undergoing surgery.
Earlier, police alleged the machete was extremely sharp and slashed the officer’s finger down to the bone.
Nobody was home when the officers arrived.
Murarrie man Mickelo was charged with one count each of serious assault of a police officer causing bodily harm while armed, grievous bodily harm, enter dwelling and commit, possession of a knife in public and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
Mickelo remains remanded in custody and did not appear in person in court.
His legal team did not apply for bail and Magistrate Terry Duroux listed the matter for a committal mention on June 30.
The court heard they were serious charges and Mickelo had a previous conviction for robbery.
