An 81-year-old Waterford West man has been extradited from Victoria to face court in Beenleigh for historic rape and child sex offences.

The elderly man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared in custody at Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

He stands charged with six counts of indecent treatment of children under 16 (child under 12 years), three counts of rape, and one count each of attempted rape and indecent treatment of a child under 16 (expose) child under 12 years lineal descendant/guardian/carer.

The court heard the alleged offending involving two girls took place in Tanah Merah in 1994.

The court heard the 81-year-old had also been charged with failure to appear in accordance with an undertaking after he absconded to Victoria in his motor home.

The man was extradited from Victoria back to Beenleigh, where he appeared in custody and pleaded guilty to failing to appear.

For that single charge, he was placed on a $500 good behaviour bond for a period of 12 months, with no convictions recorded.

He was granted an application for bail for his other matters, which were adjourned for further mention on April 20.
