A Logan father-of-two who stole money from his partner before violently beating her holding her against her will for six days has been jailed for his “deplorable” offending.

Browns Plains man Jason Mark Duncan, 50, pleaded guilty to 36 offences in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Thursday, June 8 including the serious charge deprivation of liberty.

The court heard that on November 23, 2020 Duncan walked up to his partner in their Beenleigh home and demanded she give him money.

When she refused he raised his fist at her and said “I will f*****g choke you”.

The court heard he then refused to let her leave the house for three days and held her arm tightly, causing swelling and purple bruising.

Starting on January 21, 2021 for six days, Duncan held the victim against her will and pulled her hair.

“You’re not f*****g leaving,” he said to the victim.

Duncan pleaded guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm and deprivation of liberty for the attack (domestic violence offences).

The court heard Duncan also sent more than 700 abusive text messages and made more than 150 phone calls, many of which were threatening, to the victim.

In the text messages he called her a “s**t”, a “w****” and said “I’ll make you take your last breath”.

Duncan and his ex-partner’s relationship was described as one of “mutual drug use” by the court.

Magistrate Patrina Clohessy said the behaviour was concerning

“The circumstances are deplorable,” she said.

“A custodial sentence is the only punishment appropriate.”

Duncan was sentenced to two years prison, with a parole release date of June 29, 2023

He had already served 160 days of pre-sentence custody
