Controversial former federal MP for Bowman, Andrew Laming, has been charged with driving his vehicle illegally earlier this year.

Andrew Charles Laming, 57, was charged with driving without a licence due to accumulating too many demerit points in Birkdale on May 11, 2024.

Mr Laming appeared by phone before Cleveland Magistrates Court on June 19.

His matter was adjourned to Monday, July 8.

No plea has been entered.

In a statement by Mr Laming outside court, he confirmed infringement notices and “notice to choose’’ correspondence were sent to his previous address, which he forgot to update on his licence after returning from regional work last year.

“All correspondence had been returned to sender rather than forwarded to (me), so (I) remained unaware of the automatic suspension until stopped by police last month,” Mr Laming said.

He said he would submit correspondence to that effect in the coming days and his postal address, as recorded by Transport and Main Roads, was now current.
