The creators of one of Brisbane’s best croissants, sold at markets across South East Queensland, have fulfilled their lifelong dream of opening their own shop to continue creating their iconic treats.
Famous for their business’s friendly customer interactions, heavenly smell and authentic French taste, the Little French Bakery is a market staple.
Owners Emma Hermier and Steven Allard began their family business in 2016 with the mission to “bring Paris to Brisbane”.
The couple has secured a location they have dreamt of since beginning their stall.
The dream spot is located at 109 Bloomfield St, Cleveland, opposite to where they had a weekly stall at Cleveland Markets.
Ms Hermier said the shop was a “dream come true”.
“We have fallen in love with the customers at Cleveland Markets, New Farm Powerhouse Markets, Manly Markets and Rocklea,” Ms Hermier said.
“We are a family business who have always wanted our own shop and we are so excited to achieve this goal.
“We have built such a great relationship with customers all over Brisbane and can’t wait to have everything in one place,” she said.
Ms Hermier and Mr Allard, both from France, met in Brisbane and shared a passion for quality French patisseries, wine and culture.
“We share a bakery and a bed,” Ms Hermier said.
“We are a family-owned business, I am the at the front chatting to the customers and Steven is out the back baking.
“We bake everything on site and use quality French flour and butter.
“As a little girl I would visit the bakery in Normandy where I am from and talk with the chef, I am excited to bring this experience to Cleveland,” she said.
Ms Hermier said she had received regular feedback from customers who would usually experience bloating and discomfort from pastries and bread.
“Because our French flour is so pure and authentic we find many customers who have gluten intolerances and other issues can still enjoy our products because they are not filled with chemicals and other irritating ingredients found in Australian and American flours,” Ms Hermier said.
“We want to put a smile on the faces of our customers and keep them coming back for our bestsellers; traditional croissants, chocolate croissants, almond croissants and raisin swirls.
“This shop is a new chance for us.
“People can smell the freshness from far away, it is so good,” she said.
Ms Hermier and Mr Allard have decorated the shop to reflect a traditional French bakery with black and white colours, French posters and postcards, and of course tribute to the Eiffel Tower.
“It has been very emotional as we have been so ready for this for so long,” Ms Hermier said.
“We can now also serve our favourite chilled desserts with the new facilities so lemon meringue tarts and eclairs will also be available.
“I can’t wait to put the key in the door and begin service,” she said.
The Little French Bakery opens their doors on May 4, 2024 and is open Wednesday – Sunday.
“I try to make everything in my life fun so the passion stays, the customers can tell how much we enjoy it,” Ms Hermier said.
