Train users are being urged to plan ahead over Easter as vital Cross River Rail works force the closure of every southeast Queensland line, causing major changes to Gold Coast, Airport, Beenleigh and Ferny Grove services.

But extra services will be put on to ensure the public can get to Anzac Day Dawn Services.

The closures are needed to allow efficient and safe construction works for the latest stage of the massive CRR project.

Cross River Rail Delivery Authority CEO Graeme Newton said the closures would take place over 21 days from Good Friday (April 7) to Thursday, April 27.

“These track closures will allow crews to complete major works safely and efficiently,’’ Mr Newton said.

“Although we plan them during quieter times on the network, we appreciate some people will be inconvenienced.

“We thank customers for their patience as we continue delivering this city-shaping project.”

Mr Newton said during the closures, crews would install large sections of the new Boggo Road pedestrian and cycle bridge, undertake works on new tracks north and south of Cross River Rail’s tunnels and continue rebuilding Dutton Park, Fairfield and Rocklea stations.

“Over April, we’ll see the Boggo Road pedestrian and cycle bridge – which will link the new underground station with the Princess Alexandra Hospital and South East Busway – start coming to life,” Mr Newton said.

“Crews will be undertaking important track works north and south of the tunnels, including installing turnouts at Dutton Park station, which are used to guide trains between tracks at rail intersections.

“Critical station rebuild works will also take place at Dutton Park, Fairfield and Rocklea stations, while on the Shorncliffe line, we’ll be testing trains fitted out with our new world-class signalling system.”

TransLink head Sally Stannard said alternative travel arrangements would be in place during the closure and urged customers to plan their journeys in advance.

“We’ve also scheduled additional services on Anzac Day to help customers get to the dawn service and parade,’’ she said.

“Customers on the Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines in particular should make sure they plan in advance, as these services will be impacted throughout the entire closure.

“We will continue to keep the community up to date before the closure comes into effect on Good Friday.”
