One of the largest burger brands in the world is poised to open a drive-through restaurant in a quiet village in Logan’s south.

Carl’s Jr burger chain, which made its name selling chargrilled burgers outside Los Angeles, has been given approval to open in a drive-through restaurant at a service station in Logan Village.

It will be the 12th Carl’s Jr burger bar in the state and follows other fast-food chains Mcdonald’s KFC, Origin Kebabs and Subway, into Logan Village.

Developer Banner S & C has been pushing for various planning approvals on the site since 2017.

It opened a Coles Express service station at the site on Waterford Tamborine Rd opposite Stockleigh Rd in 2020.

But its previous applications to build a car wash, two drive-through restaurants and a tyre fitting shop on the site were refused in August.

The state government, along with Logan City Council, said those activities did not fit with the council’s rural-residential zone and were not permitted in a park living precinct.

In refusing that previous application, Logan council officers said there was adequately zoned vacant land inside the centre of Logan Village about 1.175km north of the service station.

In August, Banner S & C appealed the refusal in the Planning and Environment Court.

However, it has approval to build one larger fast-food drive-through outlet and carpark.

Verve Building Design redrew plans to ensure the 150 sqm fast-food restaurant would fit into the overall design.

The latest plan changes also modify parking at the front with shop storage and retail added to the side of the service station.

The road into and out of the servo remains the same.

Council officers said they were satisfied the existing carparking arrangement would cater for the drive-through restaurant.

“It (the car park) will still be linked to the service station with an opening to be provided between both tenancies,” an officer report said.

“It is anticipated there will be cross utilisation of carparking spaces, with some customers expected to use both the service station and food and drink outlet.”

Next-door neighbour Mal Higlett said he was concerned about noise and lights from the site at night as well as drainage.

“This is no longer a quiet village,” he said.

“This is supposed to be rural but now there is a 24-hour service station and soon a fast-food restaurant.

“I am not against development and welcome progress but I want to make sure that this will not become a bottle shop and that there is no more soil run-off from the site.”

The state government this month also approved a request to install signs on poles for the new nine-car drive-through.
