GOLD Coasters still have time to get a discount on their entry into one of the city’s biggest events of the year.
Locals wanting to run in the 2023 Gold Coast Marathon events can get a 20 per cent discount up until Tuesday next week.
Organisers say the early bird local entry has surpassed expectations by 50 per cent compared to last year for the July event, with discounted offerings spiking demand.
Marathon ambassador, Olympian and long-distance running world champion Benita Willis said the event provided a unique opportunity for locals to participate in an international event where amateurs can rub shoulders with world-class athletes and Olympians.
“There are so many running events these days but this sets the Gold Coast Marathon apart from other events,” Ms Willis said.
“It’s an iconic weekend on the Gold Coast that really brings the community together.”
Part of the program includes the Health and Wellbeing two kilometre and four kilometre Junior Dash, an effort to promote healthy and active living.
The event is for kids aged five to 10, with Gold Coast mum and youth fitness coach Kylee Freeman jumping on board with her son Duke and a number of keen, budding athletes.
“We have some fun training sessions planned so the children will be well and truly ready for their races in July,” Ms Freeman said.
“There are so many great world-class events in this city but not many you actually get to participate in.”
Other features in this year’s event will include the CPL wheelchair marathon, ASICS half marathon and the five kilometre fun run. Full details can be found at www.goldcoastmarathon.com.au
