One of the largest Sporting Globes in the country — taking shape on the high-profile site of the former Hard Rock Cafe — is tipped to open within months.

The 1480sq m hi-tech sports bar and brewery was due for completion early this year, but due to delays co-owner Mark Vigus said he was confident its debut would now be “this side of 2024”.

“We’re not putting a direct timeframe on it. All the marketing is around mid 2024 so we’re hoping everything stays on track,” he said.

Construction started in mid January to transform the corner site into a Sporting Globe x 4 Pines Brewery downstairs and dining venue/sports bar upstairs.

Mr Vigus, along with his brother Brad Vigus, also owns Sporting Globe Robina and Logan, and said they planned to make the flagship Surfers store an epicentre for live entertainment – a homage to its Hard Rock heritage.

“It’s for sport lovers, big sporting events and will really take over live entertainment,” Mr Vigus said.

“We’re looking to build a transition into a really good night spot. You can look to come in for all your sport — the AFL, the NRL — and look to come in for a good night as well once all the sport is done and just enjoy a really good atmosphere.”

Pending liquor licencing approvals, Mr Vigus planned for the venue to stay open until late and feature a range of live music.

“Whether it be live acoustic bands, DJs – we’re going to have a bit of everything, so we’ll definitely have the ability to have plenty of entertainment,” he said.

The venue will feature jumbo LED screens broadcasting all forms of live sport, interactive touchscreen booth TVs with kids games and a full range of sport channels, and more than 50 TVs on the walls showing any live game within Sporting Globe’s licencing.

“(We will show) anything pay per view, your NRL, AFL, NFL, all international sport, your EPL which is a big thing,” Mr Vigus said.

“Having a venue that has the ability to show English Premier League is going to be a massive drawcard for people to stay in later and watch that – it will be a one-stop shop.”
