It’s a sight to behold and a Christmas tradition – 110 Santas on jetskis motoring down a Gold Coast waterway.

But organisers of the popular festive fundraiser say they are considering a move away from the Glitter Strip in 2024.

On Sunday the Santa convoy wound its way through the Broadwater and down into the canals of Surfers Paradise in a bid to raise money for children in residential care throughout southeast Queensland.

Organiser Jane Padden said $5000 was raised this year – going towards Christmas presents for 600 children via the local organisation Kids in Care.

“We were so lucky with the weather – we were worried it was going to be cancelled,” Mrs Padden said.
“We were going to call it on Thursday but the weather suddenly changed – we were so lucky.

“This year was just fantastic, the weather couldn’t have been any better, we have people that come every year and they just love it – it’s a great morning and all for a good cause.”

However, Mrs Padden said due to slightly lower numbers this year, the Brisbane River was being considered as a convoy contender for 2024.

“We’re taking feedback form those who have been getting tickets the last few years and we’ll decide from there,” Mrs Padden said.

“It’ll be something different and it will look amazing – we were down a little bit on numbers from normal so we thought maybe we’ll try a different location next year and do every other year on the Gold Coast.”
