A Gold Coast food stall known for its karaage chicken rice bowls has found its forever home.
After eight years of being a fan favourite food stall at Miami Marketta, Kudo Bros will unveil its first cafe/restaurant, Kudo Bros Espresso Bar and Kitchen, in Robina on Sunday.
Kudo Bros owner Kei Kudo said he was a “bit nervous” to be venturing out with his own restaurant for the first time.
Mr Kudo said he had been searching for a space for Kudo Bros to call home since before the Covid-19 pandemic hit.
“It was just a hard time to start the business and I couldn’t find the right place back then,” he said.
Mr Kudo said he was inspired to open his own venue after working at a restaurant owned by Masako Otsuka called Bistro SEIEN in Japan.
“She taught me some secret recipes and I wanted to spread the beautiful Japanese dish on the Gold Coast,” he said.
While its most popular dish is the karaage chicken rice bowl, Kudo Bros diners will be able to have a front-row seat to Japanese food “you’ve never tried”.
“Each dish has a bit of accent, you would be surprised,” he said.
“(And try) our original acai bowl, which we think is the best on the Gold Coast.”
Mr Kudo said he chose the 18-seat space in Robina because of its “cosy town” feeling.
“There are residential areas, various businesses, schools, a church and so on, which means many different people will gather,” he said.
“That’s why this opportunity was very attractive for us, whose vision is giving all the people in Australia a brand new experience.”
Mr Kudo confirmed the stall at Miami Marketta would stay and was committed to “keep being there for the community”.
