A GOLD Coast man taped two plastic containers together with wires and told police they were a bomb before trying to grab an officer’s gun, a court was told.
But moments after making the threat Kasey John McGhie admitted the containers were brake fluid and apologised to police.
McGhie pleaded guilty in the Southport District Court yesterday to a bomb hoax and serious assault police.
The court was told police were called to McGhie’s Gold Coast home on August 20, 2018, after concerns were expressed about his mental health.
Defence barrister Sarah Thompson, instructed by Allen & Searing Criminal Lawyers, said McGhie was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital after the incident where he spent one month as an inpatient.
Judge David Kent sentenced him to two years probation.
“We can’t be having bomb threats or struggling with police over guns,” he said.
No convictions were recorded.
