A Gold Coast musician busted with a swag of pills and illicit drugs in his front seat has claimed it was a relationship breakdown that sent him back into addiction.

Jordan Wallace Wignall was stopped by police at Robina on May 1 last year, only weeks after he was caught driving an unregistered and uninsured car on a suspended licence.

Southport Magistrates Court was told the 32-year-old tested positive to methamphetamines and MDMA in his system, prompting police to search his vehicle.

Officers found a bag on Wignall’s front seat containing small amounts of several drugs including marijuana, MDMA, oxycontin, Viagra, and other controlled medication. They also found drug utensils.

Wignall told police he had prescriptions for the pills, but could not produce them.

The Gold Coast man racked up more charges after police raided a Southport home on December 10, finding less than 1g of meth on a coffee table near a woman smoking a glass pipe.

Officers also uncovered small amounts of GHB or ‘fantasy’, marijuana, prescription pills such as Lyrica and endone, and various drug utensils in the master bedroom.

The court heard Wignall failed to attend court and breached conditions of his bail on several occasions throughout 2021.

Defence lawyer Mollie Roper said her client began using marijuana at 18 years old and meth by 23, and had previously needed to stop using amphetamines to manage his ADHD due to his drug addiction.

She said Wignall managed to stay clean for several years, but began using again in 2021 after separating from the mother of his three-year-old daughter.

“He’s developed an addiction to methylamphetamine, and it’s clear on the basis of his history that he’s been battling that for the better part of the last decade,” Ms Roper said.

“All possession relates to small quantities consistent with my client’s personal use.”

Wignall pleaded guilty to almost 30 charges including possessing dangerous drugs, possessing drug utensils, drug driving, possessing S4 or S8 medicines, and breaching a bail condition.

He was placed on probation for 12 months, with conditions to complete drug testing and counselling as required.
