JFK Woodfire and Kitchen closed for the last time on Sunday after serving the beachside suburb for a decade.
The owners claimed the shock closure was due to a dispute with their landlord in a “sad announcement” Facebook post just days before they shut.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the closure of JFK this Sunday,” the post said.
“We have unfortunately not been able to come to an agreement with our landlord on building issues, therefore they have given us notice.”
The fan favourite pizza parlour was originally opened by Julie Hamilton and sold to Megan Cruise six years ago.
“After six years of owning JFK, our customers have become family and we thank you for making our business so successful,” the post said.
“Please come down over the next four days to say goodbye.”
Burleigh resident Michael Frederick said he was “absolutely devastated” about the closure.
“For whatever reason my pizza craving kicked in and I ordered my usual from JFK in Burleigh,” he said.
“Upon leaving with the pizzas I had a chat with a family that was headed out and they informed me that the business is closing down.
“I am ripped apart. They had awesome food and the pizza is the best in this area.”
Fellow dough lovers shared the same slice of grief.
Kerri Davidson said the restaurant had the “best food” including their pork belly pieces with scallops mandarin sauce, pear, walnut, parmesan on a rocket salad.
“All the best to the owners, it’s not an easy decision to close,” she said.
