A social media sensation has claimed he copped a $1000 fine after he was caught driving while cooking a steak on the Gold Coast.
But now transport bosses have stepped in to reveal all was not as it seemed.
Millionaire entrepreneur and social media identity Jackson O’Doherty shared a fine he claims to have received after cooking a steak while driving on the Pacific Motorway.
“Don’t drive and cook,” he captioned the post on Instagram.
The YouTube prankster says he was also fined four demerit points for the offence of “driver use frying pan” and “handheld/resting on body”.
The photo on the supposed fine showed Mr O’Doherty flipping the steak on a camping gas cooker above his steering wheel.
In the image, Mr O’Doherty is looking directly up at the mobile phone camera.
Fellow influencer and businessman Troy Williams, aka Troy Candy, commented on the post and said: “Only you”.
“Not often I spend a thousand bucks on a steak my friend,” Mr O’Doherty replied.
Another commenter said it was “high steak driving at its finest”.
However in their own social media post later on Thursday Transport and Main Roads Queensland gave the game away, revealing the image was an elaborate prank.
"The steak’s a fake," they wrote.
They also added a serious note.
"This infringement notice may be fake but the reality of dangerous driving is not," they said.
The incident came after Mr O’Doherty rented out Dreamworld in an extravagant plan to celebrate his annual “unique” Halloween party with 500 of his friends in October.
Police Minister Dan Purdie had slammed the behaviour of a social media identity, describing cooking a steak while driving as “un-Australian”.
“What a goose…I’m a big fan of a BBQ, particularly a lamb chop over the Australia Day long weekend but someone as I have been alerted to, trying to cook a steak while driving … that is un-Australian,” he said.
“It’s a serious matter. It is dangerous.
“We had the highest road toll in a long time just late last year and people like that need to have a long hard look at themselves and stop being a bloody idiot and be considerate of other road users.”
