A street juggler has been left fearing for his life after he was “attacked and choked” while standing at a Gold Coast intersection.
Ziv Melet recently became a local sensation because of his entertainment acts at the city’s intersections.
Mr Melet said he was attacked by a man at about 2.30pm on Thursday at the Cottesloe Drive and Southport-Burleigh Road intersection.
“I was at the junction and then out of nowhere this guy jumped on me and hit me until I was on the ground,” he said.
“He started to choke me and was shouting ‘get out of the f**king road’.
“I was really struggling.
“I tried to push his arm from my throat because I couldn’t breathe.”
Mr Melet said he was grateful for a man who stepped in and got the attacker off of him.
“I tried to call the cops but he kept pushing me and he was very aggressive,” he said.
Mr Melet said he was able to get away and “ran until he felt safe again” so he could call the police.
He said police arrived and said the attacker felt worried for Mr Melet and his safety.
“They said next time they see me (at an intersection) they will give me a warning.”
Mr Melet said he was left speechless after his interaction with police and “didn’t know what to do next”.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do next but I am for sure not staying in this city”.
Gold Coast police said they received calls at about 3.40pm regarding the incident.
“Information to police was that a man was juggling at the intersection when he was assaulted by a motorist,” they said.
“Police and paramedics attended the location and took up with those involved.
“A formal complaint was not forthcoming in relation to this matter.”
On Thursday, Gold Coast resident Lauren Somers said she was “sad” to say she saw Mr Melet being “beaten”.
“A man at the stop lights was juggling and entertaining us with no malicious intent and everyone was quite amused as we were waiting for the lights to change,” she wrote in a post to a Facebook community page.
Ms Somers the man pulled onto the nature strip and walked over and “beat the sh*t out of him”.
“Why? You know men, you can talk before you take action.”
Other people said they witnessed the incident and immediately called police.
Ms Somers said another man exited his car to help defuse the situation and stop the “carnage”.
