THE COVID-19 shut down has turned into an opportunity for the region’s film industry as home grown talent returns to make magic on our shores.

For international model, and Gold Coast girl Beth Hurrell the return home from Los Angeles to escape the pandemic meant she was able to score her first starring role.

As the face of ‘Peep Show’ an indie short film by Brisbane director Charli Burrowes, the former St Michael’s College student said the homecoming of many from overseas has been the silver lining of 2020.

The 23-year-old blonde beauty played the lead role of a cheeky florist in the dreamy, stylised clip.

“I had always wanted to do some more acting and had some roles in the past, but nothing as big as this which is really amazing,” Ms Hurrell said.

“I was modelling in LA and working with quite a few brands while living in a modelling apartment,” Ms Hurrell said.

“Essentially you are rooming with other models who are signed up to the same agency.

“It is squishy but great to live with others in the same position. But when COVID-19 happened most made the decision to come home for a while.

“I had to come back from the movie capital of the world only to find my biggest role yet at home.

“Working with Charli was something I had always wanted to do, I was stoked to get the chance.

“In the creative industry in Australia so many people know each other so it is amazing to see all the projects that have come out of the last little while.

“Aussie culture really is a thing in film, everyone just wants to help one another so to see all these people who live here regularly and others return has been a huge thing for film.

“Really I was just chuffed to work with Charli. It is definitely my favourite production I have taken part in. I am constantly in awe of how her mind works, every piece had so much detail, every shot, every look.”

Ms Hurrell who is also a graduate of the New York Film Academy based at Oxenford said she hoped to further her career when she returns to the US next year.
