AS friends, Elke Fisher, 9, from Palm Beach and Monty Lawrie, 7, from Benowa, have always been inseparable.

They are frequently asked if they are sisters.

So when it came to choosing an outfit to go trick or treating last Thursday, there was an obvious choice for mums Emma and Brooke – the creepy twins from horror movie The Shining.

“The are little best friends who have grown up together and would love nothing more than to be sisters,” Monty’s mum Brooke said. “So we thought, why not make them evil sisters?”

The costume they came up with, which involved copious amounts of fake blood, was so gruesomely realistic it won a poll of Bulletin readers to decide the Gold Coast’s best Halloween outfit.

And it was a huge hit when the pair went trick or treating in Palm Beach.

“As soon as the kids walked up everyone said, ‘yep, that’s it, they’re the winners’,” Brooke said.

“Everybody was asking them if they were twins, to which they obviously replied ‘yes’.”

Despite their ghoulish outfits, the girls won’t be watching The Shining any time soon.

“They’ve obviously never seen that movie so they had no idea,” Brooke said.

“Knowing my daughter, she’ll never watch it.

“They’re little scaredy-cats.”
