A BABY platypus has a new home after being found close to death in Mount Warning National Park earlier this year.

Park rangers found the seven-month-old dubbed “Wally” starving to death and seriously injured.

But after months of tender loving care the little guy is ready for his new home with a female playmate at David Fleays Wildlife Park

Ranger-in-charge Jacqui Seal said the platypus was found severely underweight, but was almost back to a healthy size.

“His back injury has healed and he has gone from less than 200 grams to 550 grams, thanks to a daily diet of worms and crayfish,” she said.

“Veterinary advice is that he be kept in captivity, as he is still undersized and would not survive in the wild.”

Wally has now joined female platypus Pebbles in David Fleay’s special platypus tank in Burleigh Heads.
