‘Incredible’ shipping container set to steal show at Main Beach Flower Festival this weekend

LIVE music, stilt walkers and floral designers from across the globe will bring the Main Beach Flower Festival to life this weekend.
Festival organisers have worked to ensure the June 27-28 is COVID safe with events happening in private bars and restaurants.
Handmade butterflies will adorn shop windows of Tedder Ave shops and fill the festival’s masterpiece, a repurposed shipping containers that arrives on the corner of Woodroffe and Tedder Ave this Friday, June 26.

Floral art designer and creative director for the festival, Julia Rose, was sent 25,000 handmade butterflies in which to decorate the container. Due to social distancing restrictions, festival goers must view the inside of the masterpiece at mainbeachflowerfestival.com.au.
Kicking off at 10am, with online presentations available from 9am, artists involved include Richard Christensen, Qld Junior Florist of the Year 2011, Yohanes Wempy, an internationally-acclaimed Ikebana Expert and Bart Hassam, 2019 World Cup of Floral Design Winner.

The event will be officially opened by Cr Darren Taylor, Mayoress Ruth Tate and Margot de Groot, President of the Main Beach Business and Tourism Association.
Thoughts to be the world’s first “phygital” flower festival, the event is a combination of digital and physical elements to help ensure the community’s safety during COVID-19.
A 3D digital photographer has filmed the inside of the container so festival-goers can “walk-around inside’’ the container via their computer.

School children and locals made some of the 25,000 handmade butterflies, with Pimpama artist Mariya Todorova creating a staggering 1000 of the winged creatures in her spare time.
Gardening guru Costa Georgiadis sharing a Facebook post created by Ms Rose asking people to make butterflies. With his support, and that of locals, Ms Rose more than doubled her original goal of 10,000 butterflies.

Street entertainers and performers will be walking through the Tedder Ave precinct in Main Beach from 10am and will include stilt walkers and floral photo frame models.
