WHEN Gold Coast woman Janine Clelland promised to love her new husband in sickness and in health, she didn’t realise she would be spending her honeymoon in hospital.
Loved up Pimpama locals Janine and Shannon Clelland were excited to set off on their honeymoon, to celebrate their recent wedding, when a near fatal accident landed them both in the emergency ward.
The pair who were married on December 21st were experience motorbike riders, and often spent their weekends on the back of their beloved Harley Davidson who played a key role in their wedding.
On New Years day their romantic escape ended before it even began after the motorbike was collected by a turning car on Bull Road.
“We were about to head off on the honeymoon, I was on the back of the bike,” Mrs Clelland said.

“We were so happy, it was a beautiful morning and all of a sudden I was on the ground.”
The newlywed’s motorbike collided with a car sending the couple flying.
“I couldn’t get up I knew there was something very wrong with my leg,” she said.
Suffering multiple injuries including a broken foot, broken wrist and twisted ligaments the couple had to spend New Year’s Day at the Gold Coast University Hospital.
Mr Clelland had to undergo further surgery.
Despite their injuries the pair say it has been a dramatic start to their marriage and look forward to enjoying their honeymoon in the near future.
“We don’t do things in halves,” Mr Clelland joked from his hospital bed.
“I’m just devastated that all there is left of the bike is a few bits of metal.”
“I bought it when I first met Janine so it is special to us, we even did it up for the wedding.
“If we get through this we can get though anything.”
