FOR the best part of two decades Claude “Mowerman” Harvey has pushed his motor mower around Australia, raising $1,070,000 for child protection organisation, Bravehearts.

But this year, Claude’s 42-year-old son Ian may be taking over the mantle – tackling Bravehearts’ challenge of seven marathons in seven states for the second year running. Ian will start in Perth in June and finish with the Gold Coast Marathon in July.

The father of two said he “couldn’t walk for a week’’ after last year’s effort.

“I’m doing a lot more training this year,” he said. “I did 85km last week.”

Claude said he never expected that Ian would follow in his footsteps to raise money for Bravehearts.

“I’m very proud of him,” he said. “I really didn’t think that he’d make it (last year) but he surprised me.”

Ian has raised more than $6000 for Bravehearts so far this year and is aiming to reach the $10,000 mark.

Claude’s next mower stint will start in Perth on April 27 and wrap up in the Margaret River region.
