Almost 30,000 people across the country rallied in a desperate search for a missing Gold Coast bulldog, but the beloved pet pooch has still not been reunited with his owners.
Biggie the two-year-old British bulldog was reported “stolen” from the family’s Gaven home on March 31, 2021 – more than a year and a half ago.
The family offered a $5000 reward for the safe return of Biggie, who “has health issues and cannot be used for breeding”.
Sightings were reported across southeast Queensland, including in Ipswich and Logan, but some claimed to have spotted the missing dog as far south as Sydney.
Biggie’s disappearance has captured hearts across the nation as it’s been chronicled on the Bring Biggie Boy Home Facebook page, which has racked up more than 27,000 followers.
The widespread search for the dog – which has surpassed many campaigns aimed at locating missing people – has also been widely publicised by Gold Coast news outlets and media across Australia, including A Current Affair.
“We just want him home, that’s it, no questions asked,” owner Nadine Steadman said at the time.
In recent days, a new update emerged on the Facebook page, but it did not carry with it positive news about Biggie thousands of followers have been hoping for.
“Missing you so much our beautiful boy,” the post read.
“Baby is nearly 2 and you would’ve been her best ever friend. Instead she just looks at photos of you. I wish so hard that you were still here with us.
“Forever in our hearts, always on our minds and I promise NEVER forgotten
“I love you so much Biggie boy.”
The post has attracted thousands of comments, shares and reactions.
Page followers frequently express their sadness at Biggie’s disappearance.
“Thank you for the update, for what it’s worth I have been following your story about Biggie since the beginning,” one woman wrote.
Another wrote that she was “constantly heartbroken reading your story”.
“I so wish for a happy ending for you all,” she said.
In July this year, the family posted a similarly emotional update.
“Miss you every single day, even worse when it’s raining,” the post read.
“Hope you are happy Biggie, wherever you are. Love you always and forever.”
Biggie is described as brown, caramel and white in colour with tan ears. He did not have his collar on when he vanished.
The family has been contacted for more information on the search
There has been no indication Queensland Police has made inroads in its investigations, which were previously described as “thorough and comprehensive”.
