Houseboat explodes into flames on the Broadwater at Labrador

A MAN has reportedly escaped a houseboat that exploded into flames in the Broadwater near Wave Break Island this morning.

UPDATE: SEVERAL forensic police and fire crews are at the scene of an earlier houseboat fire assessing the cause of the blaze.

The houseboat exploded into flames about 9.30am and luckily no one was hurt.

It is unknown if the fire is suspicious and investigations continue.

EARLIER: A MAN has reportedly escaped a houseboat that exploded into flames in the Broadwater near Wave Break Island this morning.

Water Police and fire crews are attending to the burning vessel which caught alight just before 9.30am.

It is situated on the western side of Wave Break Island, there are reports a man jumped from the bow of the boat and swam to the safety of the island.

The houseboat is well involved and black smoke is billowing from the boat.

Boaties are advised to avoid the area.
