The owners of a new southern Gold Coast ramen restaurant say they’ve been bowled over by the support from locals.

Harahetta Ramen, inspired by small alley bars in Tokyo, opened in Coolangatta on October 21 and is already serving up to 150 people a night within a three-hour window.

Husband and wife duo Hiroshi and Sarah Takeyama said they had always dreamt of opening a restaurant in Australia.

The couple made their debut on the Gold Coast in 2019 with Goukai Ramen in Burleigh, which they sold at the start of this year.

Ms Takeyama said they jumped at the chance to take over the space vacated by The Jungle Mexican Cantina on Marine Parade in Coolangatta.

She said they had designed Harahetta Ramen to replicate the vibe of small alley bars in Tokyo.

“We have rainbow flashing LED lights under the bar and even a TV mounted on the wall playing old-school Japanese hip-hop film clips,” she said.

The restaurant specialises in tonkotsu ramen. Ms Takeyama said black garlic tonkotsu ramen was their most popular dish.

The menu also features karaage chicken, rice bowls, gyoza and more.

The couple say they have received “overwhelming positive support” from the local community.
