THE Hilton Surfers Paradise will feature a new lobby, bar and a bizarre art exhibition as part of a $9 million makeover being carried out during the coronavirus crisis.

It is the largest revamp for the ritzy hotel since it opened in late 2011.

The renovations have already produced a new executive lounge and nine new rooms added to the Hilton, as well as three more meeting spaces.

General manager Fiona Pryde said building the new lobby, bar and gallery in the pandemic created a sense of optimism among the Hilton team.

“The entire ground floor renovation including the new lobby, Ms Margot’s Bar & Eats and the Exhibition Gallery has been built by local Gold Coast builders AS Built Projects and it’s been great to support local family business at this time,” she said.

Ms Pryde said the bar was named after regular visitor Ms Margot, who has dropped by daily for about a decade for breakfast and a coffee.

“We chose to name the bar after our beloved Ms. Margot who keeps coming back day after day, year after year for her daily dose of the famous Hilton Hospitality we provide,” she said.

Choice eats include tempura bug rolls, grilled king prawns and pork belly baos, while cocktail mixologists have curated a range of specialty cocktails.

Described as an “exhibition that gets under the skin”, it includes real human bodies preserved by the process of plastination.

Created by Gunther von Hagens in 1977, plastination involves replacing water and fat with plastics to form specimens which do not decay.

Ms Margot’s Bar & Eats and The Real Human Anatomy Exhibition are due to open on Friday.
