HERO POLICE DOG WHO CAUGHT DAMIAN LEEDING’S KILLER SADLY DIES
The famous canine, who caught the killers of Senior Constable Damian Leeding in 2011, retired last June after an illustrious career.
An emotional Sen-Const Algie said Bosun would not have had it any other way.
“He lived well and did not leave this life wanting to know if he’d done everything or not — Bosun had every opportunity,” he said.
“Bosun was one of those dogs who would do anything and he got to enjoy life by doing things many others would never get to.
“It was only in the last week when his health went downhill and yesterday it was just time, and he deserved to keep his dignity. I think he was glad to have me there at the end.”
Bosun’s death comes just eight months after his last public outing in November 2013 when he received the Australian Defence Force Service Medal.
The medal was granted to Bosun and Sen-Const Algie for his long and eventful career which ended with one last collar in June when he took part in the arrest of a violent bikie.
Bosun took his fair share of injuries during his long career, which included tussles with other dogs. He spent his last months in retirement in Sen-Const Algie’s backyard.
