Days of heavy rain have caused multiple popular walking tracks on the Gold Coast to be closed.
The highly popular Oceanview Track in Burleigh Heads National Park – which sees more than a million visitors every year – was closed on Friday as more than 74mm fell on the beachside suburb.
The track in Burleigh Head National Park has historically been plagued by stability issues leading to lengthy closures and is closed until declared safe by Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service Rangers.
The walking track may remain closed after rain eases to allow rangers to assess any damage resulting from the rain event.
Users who don’t mind a few extra stairs can still access the Rainforest Circuit.
Wet weather has also forced the closure of the Cedar Creek rock pools and the track used to access them.
The walking track to the Cedar Creek Falls lookout remains open.
Access to a section of the Coomera circuit remained closed this weekend after access was barred after severe weather caused multiple fallen trees and large landslips at the beginning of October.
A section of the circuit between the Coomera lookout and the junction of the Coomera circuit and the Border Track will remain temporarily closed until declared safe.
Park visitors are still able to access the lookout, however, will be required to return via the same track.
QPWS rangers are managing the situation and have damage repair activities in progress.
QPWS is urging walkers at all tracks to observe all signage, barriers and directions from rangers and do not enter closed areas.
