Haven Pods developing world-first project after glass cabins success

A Gold Coast business’ glass cabin pods have proven a hit within the short-term rental market - and now they have a new world-first project in the works.

They say people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones – but this local company is throwing a spanner in the global tourism market.

Biggera Waters business Haven Pods launched its glass cabin pods earlier this year and is now developing the world’s first floating, self-sufficient, portable glass tiny home called the Aqua.

Co-founder Cary White said the project was designed for total immersion in nature by using mirrored one-way glass.

“We wanted something that connected people to nature instead of to their phones and TVs,” he said.

“People are looking for something different and because they melt in with the scenery they don’t look like an eyesore.

“We wanted something sustainable with good materials that are going to last for a long time that are low-maintenance and non-toxic.”

Mr White said the locally made cabin pods had proven a hit within the short-term rental market.

“We initially spoke to hundreds of Airbnb hosts, especially people that had multiple cabins, and they were looking for design ideas,” he said.

“Our units are fully relocatable and showcase what is possible using totally locally sourced materials.”

The Aqua design, which Mr White described as a “static pontoon boat”, is due to launch later this year.
