Harbour Town Premium Outlets is to undergo a major revamp with a $7 million investment in its southern mall.

Stretching from JB Hi-Fi and extending towards Harbour Town Eats, the project will rejuvenate the oldest part of the Biggera Waters centre.

Included in plans released to the Bulletin are new dining and food kiosks, additional seating and shade and the creation of a new courtyard outside Woolworths in place of an existing fountain.

Harbour Town bosses said the “significant” project would “harmonise” the area with the modern design of the rest of the busy open-air centre.

Manager Greg Day said the project would transform what was the busiest entry point to the complex, which plays host to more than 200 stores.

“We are excited to give the Southern part of the Centre the upgrade it deserves,” Mr Day said.

“This is the busiest entrance to the centre, and our customers deserve a premium experience, just as they do when entering via Harbour Town Eats.”

Work on the upgrade is expected to begin in the first week of June and be finished in late November, in time for the busy summer holiday period.

Mr Day said shops would remain open during the building work, with the centre ensuring ensure minimal disruption to shoppers and traders.

“We have strategised the least disruptive way around this project, unfolding in three phases and putting mid-height hoardings in place to not affect tenant sightlines,” he said.

The project is the latest in a string of major upgrades to the centre, which first opened in 1999.

In early 2016, the centre’s North-West Mall was opened, while in December 2018 the $25 million Harbour Town Eats precinct was completed.

Last year the centre recorded almost 10 million visits and clocked up $559.5m worth of sales.
