Gold Coast’s Miami Marketta reopens as coronavirus restrictions lift

A Gold Coast nightmarket has finally opened their doors again, waving farewell to the drive-through services they’ve been running during harsh COVID-19 restrictions.

A COAST night market venue reopened their doors last night and it’s the start of “something special".

Miami Marketta has officially said goodbye to its COVID drive-through service and is welcoming guests to back to a smaller market of street food and spaced out seating.

Owner Emma Milikins said she was glad the small family business was back in action but dealing with stage two COVID restrictions was frustrating.

“We are just trying to stay positive in this whole new world but it’s been really confusing and heartbreaking.”

Ms Milikins said the restrictions, that have shutdown Marketta’s large scale music events indefinitely, hurt on a personal level.

“But we are planning to create something special in the meantime,” she said.

“Intimate seated music gigs will start in mid-July, along with Marketta’s famous Drag Queen Bingo.”

The market will be open for limited numbers on Friday and Saturday 5pm to 9pm.

New changes will include social distancing guidelines throughout the venue, everyone remaining seated unless ordering and contact details taken for every customer.

Six food vendors will be open but the team hope to enhance the laneway dining experience to 25 outlets as restrictions ease.
