Storms have hit the Gold Coast with expected rainfalls reaching a top of 50mm in the wettest parts of the city.

The downpour began just after 3pm, with Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Peter Classeen tipping more storms to cross the Hinterland tracking across the Coast over the next hour or two.

“We’re not expecting these storms to be severe and not in the heavy rainfall threshold,” he said.

“Keep an eye on Bureau of Meteorology warnings – there is the chance of small hail but we’re not expecting damaging wind gusts.”

Decent rainfall is anticipated in Tallebudgera Creek, with up to 40mm tipped.

Surfers Paradise and southern suburbs can expect a total rainfall of up to 50mm.

Mr Classeen said 15-30mm could fall further inland.

Flash flooding has already been detected in Pimpama and Coomera, according to the Early Warning Network.
