Weatherzone meteorologist Craig McIntosh said the temperature could reach 37C in Beaudesert tomorrow.

“Inland areas are expected to be inundated with smoke and very hot days, but coastal areas will still be hot,” he said.

“Coastal city residents are expected to have a cool reprieve with average temperatures today, before 30C days tomorrow and Wednesday.

“With the humidity and heat tomorrow it is going to feel hotter than what the thermometer says.”

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) have declared a State of Fire Emergency across 42 Local Government areas in Queensland. Those with pre-existing health conditions, which are exacerbated by smoke, are urged to remain vigilant over the next couple of days.

Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said the community should avoid vigorous exercise outside, use the recirculate mode on air conditioners, drink plenty of fluids, and stay cool by taking cold showers, soaking feet in water, or wearing a wet bandana or washer around the neck.

“Even if you’re fit and healthy, heat related illness can lead to serious illness and even death, so it is vital for everyone to take precautions,” she said.
