Smoke is blanketing suburbs in the Gold Coast’s north this afternoon as hazard reductions burns continue ahead of what is expected to be a hot summer.

Images shot at The Spit this afternoon show a giant plume of smoke covering areas south of Coombabah, including Labrador and Biggera Waters.

A scheduled hazard reduction burn is being conducted in the Coombabah Lakelands Conservation area today.
