Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) meteorologist Rosa Hoff said Gold Coast Seaway recorded 6.2C on Monday morning, marking the coldest July day since 2019.

The southern suburb Coolangatta recorded 3.8C, which was the coldest July temperature of the year.

Canungra in the hinterland recorded 0.8C, but a new weather station is now operational and the BOM was not able to compare against historical data.

Further inland at Beaudesert temperatures plummeted to just 0.1C.

Ms Hoff said cooler air from southern states flowing north and southwest winds off the Coast were contributing to the colder winter weather.

The frosty morning temperatures were expected to continue until at least Tuesday.

Conditions warmed up fairly quickly on Monday and the Seaway station recorded a temperature of 14.1C at 8.30am.

It’s been particularly chilly in the hinterland.

The Coast can expect mostly clear conditions through to at least Wednesday. The best chance of rain is from Thursday onwards, though only fairly light falls of up to 0.4 millimetres have been predicted.

Ms Hoff said there was a chance of fog north of Brisbane on Tuesday, but it was not particularly likely the Coast would experience similar weather.
