THE heavy rain that has hit the Gold Coast overnight is set to continue today before clearing for the weekend.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) is predicting more rain and the possibility of thunderstorms for the Gold Coast early today but the wet weather is forecast to clear for the weekend.
BOM meteorologist Rosa Hoff said the rainfall was widespread across the city overnight.
"The bulk of the rain is set to ease by lunch time, so by 2pm we should see the weather clear," she said.
"There might be some showers in the afternoon but by sunset the conditions are predicted to clear."
From 9am Thursday until 7am Friday the Hinterland recorded 19mm of rain with Tallebudgera Creek and Burleigh Waters recording 11mm.
The Gold Coast is predicted to record up to 20mm of rain on Friday and reach a top of 19C.
Ms Hoff said the city will have a clear weekend with Saturday given zero per cent chance of rain and Sunday only 10 per cent chance of rain.
"It looks like it'll be a sunny Saturday for the Gold Coast with temperatures predicted to reach 21C," she said.
"Sunday will have a little more cloud cover but temperatures are forecast to reach the low 20c again."
Ms Hoff said cooler temperatures at night are set to continue with 11C and 10C forecast for Saturday and Sunday night respectively.
