Firefighters were working to extinguish the blaze about 10am, a spokeswoman said.

Motorists were advised to avoid the M1 if possible and be particularly cautious if driving in the area.

QFES was not able to say what caused the car fire.

Emergency services were also allied to a car and motorbike crash on the M1 northbound at Oxenford about 10am, which will exacerbate congestion on the strained Pacific Motorway.
