Only weeks after the Gold Coast experienced huge downpours and flash flooding, the city will cop another drenching from Thursday afternoon, weather experts say.

Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Michael Paech said expect a south-easterly change on the later this week, with rain beginning to fall overnight on Wednesday.

“There will be moist south easterlies, cloud and showers, as well as good rainfall with totals between 20-50mm from Thursday and beyond,” he said.

He said temperatures were also expected to drop through the week with a top of 27C expected on Thursday and 26C on Friday — down from a top of 31C on Wednesday.

Melbourne tourist Kayla Janides, 18, said she wouldn’t let the weather ruin her holiday, despite having spent all her days so far sunbaking on the beach at Broadbeach.

“We have gone to the beach every single day, no joke. Coming from Melbourne, which has cold beaches, our daily activity here has been going to the beach,” he said.

Mr Paech said scattered showers were likely to carry into the weekend.

“We shouldn’t see too much in the line of any extra flood waters for the Gold Coast but in the hinterland areas like Springbrook, they tend to get some higher totals up on the range,” he said.

Despite the expected rain, Ms Janides said she still planned to brave the rain for a morning dip, while on holiday.

Mr Paech said despite the cooler weather, to expect temperatures warm enough to head to the beach again at the weekend, but the mercury would not top 27C on Saturday or Sunday.
