THE brother of a woman allegedly raped at a Gold Coast surf club is mates with his sister’s accused rapist, court documents reveal.
The documents also state the two men are both expected to attend a mutual friend’s wedding.
During the first mention of the man’s rape charge on Wednesday, solicitor for the 22-year-old, Peter Boyce, tendered a letter to the Southport Magistrates Court which asked for the man’s bail conditions to be varied to allow the lifesaver to have contact with four of 14 police witnesses he is prohibited from communicating with while on bail.
The four people named in the letter were “close friends” and included the brother of the alleged victim.
They have not been named for legal reasons.
The letter said the 22-year-old was expected to attend a mutual friend’s wedding with the complainant’s brother.
Mr Boyce said in the letter the wedding was planned “well before” the man was charged with rape and expected to be held this year.
The court today adjourned the application to vary the bail until March 30.
Until then, the 22-year-old is prohibited from having contact with 14 people as a condition of his bail.
