One of the Gold Coast’s most stunning superyachts won’t be seen offshore anymore, after a megabucks sale to a Sydney buyer, in a sign of the luxury marine sector’s health.
The Torrens Luxury Collection sold the 92-footer called Vanish – typically parked at the Palazzo Versace marina with its distinctive sleek white and red colouring – to an anonymous Sydney couple for $4 million.
The deal was done on Christmas Eve.
The Torrens Luxury Collection had owned the superyacht – boasting Rolls-Royce Kamewa jet drives – since buying it in Monaco in 2019.
Torrens Luxury Collections’ Mitch Torrens said the sale showed the potential for growth in the Gold Coast marine and luxury marine sector was “astronomical”.
“Our waterfront sprawl is sunny almost all year round, with 57km of coastline, waterside mansions and around 400km of canals – nearly 10 times more than Venice,” he said.
“As a nation we are fortunate to enjoy all the coastal lifestyle has to offer, as global travel returns we foresee Australia will be the ultimate destination to discover by private boat or charter.”
Mr Torrens told the Bulletin that “increasing the number of international yachts coming into Australia, and extending their average length of stay, means a huge injection of capital into both tourism and marine industries”.
“From fine dining restaurants to helicopter operations and underwater lighting companies, the supply chain servicing the superyacht industry is expensive. These private, luxury vessels are a key stimulant for the economy, and the opportunity is there for huge growth.”
He forecast more superyachts en route to the Gold Coast and sales in 2022.
His dad Grant Torrens said their family had shared some of the “best times of our life aboard Vanish” in the Mediterranean exploring Monaco, St Tropez and Ibiza plus more recently their Australian backyard.
