Gold Coast Supanova and Comic Con true love for Resident Evil 4 characters

Supanova and Comic Con on the Gold Coast holds special significance for a pair who locked eyes when both attended as characters from the same video game - and stayed together since.

For seasoned cosplayers, Bronte Hood and Kurt Hain, Supanova Gold Coast holds special sentiment.

Last year the pair locked eyes at the Comic Con and Gaming Convention at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition centre in Broadbach and have been inseparable since.

Asked if it was love at first sight on their one year anniversary at this year’s Supanova, Ms Hood said: “I think so. You can see it in the photos we took together, I was very much adoring him, he was very much adoring me. We spent the whole day together and now we live together.”

The photo opportunity brought them together - Mr Hain was dressed as Leon Kennedy from Resident Evil 4 whilst Ms Hood was Ashley Graham of the same franchise.

“We spotted each other, we’re from the same franchise. We went to take photos together and hit it off from there,” she said.

They revisited these characters this year.

It’s an unsurprising love story according to Hood, who has had her heart open to a fairy tale ending at a decade of Supanova events: “My mum guessed it, she was like ‘come on, you’re going to meet someone at a convention, you’ve got to meet someone as nerdy as you are.’

“So she wasn’t very surprised. It’s a place where you can go and be nerdy with other people. You get to see other people dressed from the place you’re dressed from. It’s really fun and inclusive.

“I’ve been going since I was 13 and I’m 22. It’s been a long time but I love it. I come every year.”
